The Digital Divide

  1. Some students have greater access to technology than others. How can we bridge this gap?

Governments, businesses, and communities must collaborate to bridge the divide. It is also important to have accessible internet services. Districts can do technological loan programs or set up internet hot spots students can go to after school hours. Provide before/after school class time for students who don't have access.

2. What are some ways schools can ensure all students have access to digital learning?

Partnering with tech companies to provide technology to students. Recycling old technology as well to give every student digital learning. Also, training teachers on digital literacy can help make sure students receive digital learning. Teachers can create personal learning plans around digital learning to support students. At parent teacher conferences inform student guardians on how to help students with their digital learning so that they can have support at home.

Skill vs Strategy

The difference between Skill and Strategy:

  • Skill:
    • Automatic behaviors
    • Acquired ability to perform well

  • Strategy:
    • deliberate goal-oriented actions
    • choose and apply strategies to support performance

With time and repeated practice, strategies become skills. Take reading for example. Students use reading strategies to become skilled readers. Utilizing this type of differentiation will be very beneficial for students in their learning process.
